Schedule Shifts ‘Automagically’ with the new ShiftPlanning Schedule Wizard
The ShiftPlanning team is excited to announce the release of our ‘Schedule Wizard’ auto-scheduling tool. The ‘schedule wizard’ determines which employees can work on which shifts based on shift templates, availability, vacation time, and other settings-based options. This allows managers to complete employee schedules within seconds!
Auto-scheduling has been one of the most significantly requested features, and we greatly appreciate all of the user input and will continue to rely on your feedback to make this tool as beneficial, powerful, and easy-to-use as possible.
Meet the Wizard:
Employee Scheduling has never been easier!
- Shift Templates:
ShiftPlanning’s autoscheduler works on daily, weekly, and monthly time-lines. Along with any date range, shift templates can consist of individual locations and/or positions.
- Wizard Methods:
The ‘Schedule Wizard’ is quite flexible and offer three separate options for auto-magic. The first method “use existing staff” maintains the assignments from the shift template and only replaces staff when a conflict is found. The second method replaces all staff with new assignments while obeying conflict checks. The last method ,”randomize staff assignments”, doesn’t take conflict checks into consideration and allows for completely bias free scheduling.
- Conflict Handling:
The wizard makes its decisions based on availability, vacation, and settings rules and will pick up on any conflict checks being broken that can’t be auto-resolved, allowing users to quickly spot problem areas.
We’ve outlined a step-by-step guide to using the ‘Schedule Wizard’ on our company blog.
Incremental Updates / Fixes
This release includes a number of incremental updates and fixes.
- Requests & Approvals (Trade, Vacation, Open Shift)
Requests for a shift trades, vacation time, and open shifts can now be found in the dedicated area labeled “requests & approvals” located under the action icon.
- Vacation Schedule
Users can now also find a ‘vacation’ view as part of the employee scheduler. To access ‘vacation’ view, click the ‘schedule overview’ link on the scheduler bar and check ‘vacation schedule’.
- Schedule Summary Report
The schedule summary is a report that will list all staff and hours per day with both start and end times. This report is easily grouped by location or other filters set in the application and also includes totals for key metrics.
We’ve introduced hotkeys into its online employee scheduler to help users save time in navigating the scheduler and switching between the various date ranges and views.
- Improved Browser Support
We’ve improved browser support for our iPad & iPhone users as well as a number of fixes for older versions of Internet Explorer (7 & 8).
So, What’s Coming Next:
We still have even more great features coming right around the corner and would like to share a quick preview of what we’re working on:
- Improved Payroll Support:
Direct export to multiple payroll applications as well as more support for customizable: wage, salary, and break
- Enhanced Reporting:
Improved Reporting UI, more robust import/export options, payroll-oriented reports, and the ability to email reports directly from the application.
