Happy Groundhog Day!
No matter whether Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow or not today, ShiftPlanning is here to help you schedule your staff better; rain or shine.
Remember the movie “Groundhog Day” in which Bill Murray’s character is stuck reliving the same work day over and over again? Sometimes it feels that way for you and your staff too, doesn’t it?
ShiftPlanning can at least help managers make that process much easier to deal with thanks to our Schedule Copy feature.
If you have the same people working the same shifts this week that they worked last week, you don’t need to create the same schedule from scratch. All you need to do is copy the shifts you wish to recreate and paste them into the coming week.
Here’s how you can do that.
The Schedule Copy feature allows you to copy any part of the schedule you need, whether it’s only a day, week, or month.
What the feature enables you to do is to use a past schedule as a template for copying shifts into a future date. Best of all, even after you have copied the shifts, you are still able to make adjustments to the newly created ones.
Let’s say you want to copy last week’s schedule for next week.
Go to the Schedule tab and find the day, week or month that you want to copy shifts to.
To copy a schedule to that period simply go to Settings > Copy Schedule
Choose the start and end dates of the schedule you want to copy and decide whether you want to copy the shift times only or the assignments as well.
Click on Copy Shifts when you’re done.
Voila! These old shifts have now been copied into your new schedule.
As mentioned previously, these newly copied shifts are not set in stone. You can go into them and edit whatever you need to once they have been copied.
The Schedule Copy option is there to give you a good starting point when your future shifts are similar to old ones.
It’s always better to be able to start with a template than to create your schedule from scratch every week, isn’t it? Especially when the new schedule is very similar to a past one.
