Theta is an international organization with college and alumnae chapters throughout the United States and Canada, with Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. More than 170,000 women have been initiated into Theta. The strong friendships within chapters and across the continent are what hold the fraternity together.
When Theta was founded in 1870 by Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw, it was the first Greek-letter fraternity for women. Moreover, the very idea of higher education for women was a novelty. Since then, Thetas have excelled as students and have gone on to achieve prominence in every professional field.
Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life.
The intellectual ambition of the Fraternity shall be the attainment of highest scholarship. The social aim of the Fraternity shall be to exercise the widest influence for good. The moral aim of the Fraternity shall be the standard of love.
I use the work scheduler ShiftPlanning for the Gamma Omega chapter of the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, of which I am the scholarship director. We’ve been at Auburn for three years now, and there are currently 209 girls registered with ShiftPlanning. The girls have required study hours to keep our academic standards high and previous scholarship directors had been struggling with how best to keep track of whether or not they are all completing their study hours.

Our previous method was paper and pen.
I found the interface of the work scheduler ShiftPlanning very easy to work with. Depending on their GPAs, some girls have more or less required study hours than others, so I was able to assign each girl’s number of hours as a “schedule.” Anonymity is very important when it comes to study hours and GPA and the features in the work scheduler allow the girls to sign in and out without seeing anyone else’s information.
Instead of having to go to designated places to record study hours in a binder or simply write in a Google Doc how many hours they completed, the girls sign in and out from anywhere with Internet access, while being held accountable for their hours in real time. Many girls forget to sign out sometimes, but this is not a problem, since they can just message me using the work scheduler and I can edit their clock out time and approve the hours. I love that the hours have to be approved before being counted into the final report. It’s quick and easy to do and makes it so that the girls who forgot to sign out will not be counted until they message me to let me know when they meant to clock out.
The assistance I received while signing up for the work scheduler was phenomenal. I was pleasantly shocked at the availability, friendliness and helpfulness of the ShiftPlanning team. If I had any quick question, I could use the chat and get an answer in about a minute. It has really revolutionized the way our chapter conducts study hours.
